He was one of the founders of the Akali, the Sikh daily that carried the reform movement’s arguments to a mass readership. The Akali was launched from Lahore on 21 May 1920 by Master Sundar Singh Lyallpuri, who is generally credited as its founder and driving force; Samundri belongs to the founding group, not at its head.
