Jaito Morcha and the arrest of the fifty-nine

He was arrested on 13 October 1923 in connection with the Jaito Morcha, mounted in support of Maharaja Ripudaman Singh of Nabha, whom the British had forced to abdicate in July 1923. The British declared the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal unlawful bodies and arrested fifty-nine leaders of the two organisations, charged with waging war against the King.
