The government took possession of the keys to the Golden Temple treasury (toshakhana). He was imprisoned from November 1921 to January 1922 for his part in the resulting agitation. The government returned the keys in January 1922 — handed over to Baba Kharak Singh — a decisive early victory for the movement.
