According to one account, he was chosen as one of the Panj Pyare to lead the Kar Sewa — the ceremonial desilting and cleaning — of the sarovar at the Golden Temple on 17 June 1923, reportedly the first such undertaking since 1842. The claim is currently supported only by press-level sourcing.
